Infectious or communicable diseases are caused by microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi
that can be spread, directly or indirectly, from one person to another.
Chronic or non-communicable diseases are not passed from person to person. They are typically of a long duration
and progress slowly. These diseases share several common, modifiable risk factors – tobacco use, harmful
alcohol use, physical inactivity, and unhealthy diet.
